New United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Maldives pays a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs

The newly appointed United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator for the Maldives, Mr. Hao Zhang paid a courtesy call today on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, following the formal presentation of his credentials to the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office. 

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr Khaleel extended warm congratulations on the assumption of Mr. Zhang’s new role. He expressed confidence in Mr. Zhang’s leadership and reaffirmed the Government of Maldives’ commitment to strengthening collaboration with the UN. Minister Dr Khaleel also acknowledged the invaluable technical assistance and capacity-building support provided by various UN agencies, funds, and programmes.

The UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Zhang reiterated the UN’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Maldives’ development journey and enhancing collaboration with the Government. He also conveyed his intention to work closely with all national stakeholders to ensure that the UN's work continues to align with the country’s national priorities and aspirations.
 
Both Minister Dr Khaleel and Mr Zhang highlighted the significance of 2025 as a landmark year — marking 60 years of the Maldives’ membership in the United Nations, and 80 years since the signing of the UN Charter.
