The Maldives strongly condemned the indiscriminate attacks launched by Iran targeting Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan.

Speaking at the 44th meeting of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council held today in Geneva, Switzerland, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed, reiterated the Maldives deep concern regarding the continued escalation of military tensions in the Gulf region.  

The Maldives remains deeply concerned about the humanitarian and economic impacts of the ongoing attacks in the region, and strongly condemns the military attacks initiated by Israel and the United States against Iran. The Government of Maldives calls on the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts towards an immediate ceasefire to restore peace, stability and security in the region.

The Government of Maldives co-sponsored the resolution entitled “Human rights implications of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s unprovoked attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan” submitted during the Urgent Debate.
