Maldives participates in the 119th Council of Ministers of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS)

The Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium, Geela Ali, today delivered a statement on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, at the 119th session of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). The meeting is taking place from 23-25 May 2025 in Brussels, Belgium. 

In her remarks to the Council this morning, Ambassador Geela reiterated the Government of Maldives’ support for the reform agenda of OACPS, including the new Secretary General, Moussa Salef-Batraki’s, initiatives to restructure the secretariat, enhance trade, and advance on progress towards sustainable development. She also highlighted the importance of the OACPS-EU partnership and expressed confidence in the partnership guaranteeing long term economic benefits to OACPS Member States including the Maldives.

The OACPS, comprising of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, was established in 1975 under the “Georgetown Agreement”. The Maldives became a full member of the OACPS on 9 December 2022 and has been working together with members of the OACPS and the European Union to address global challenges.
