The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations, Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, today, delivered the national statement at the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution being held at the UN Headquarters in New York from 28-30 July 2025.
In his remarks, he called on the international community to advance the principles of diplomacy and multilateralism to put an end to the deliberate acts of genocide being committed by Israel in Palestine. He urged the importance of recognising Palestine’s right to statehood based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and ensuring the continuity of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East’s (UNRWA) lifesaving aid. He then offered Maldives’ support for the implementation of the Arab Reconstruction Plan.
This conference, mandated by resolution A/RES/79/81 adopted by the UN General Assembly on 3 December 2024, aims to advance the implementation of UN resolutions pertaining the question of Palestine and the two-state solution. The three-day conference, chaired by the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of France and Saudi Arabia, resumed on 28 July 2025, was suspended in June 2025 in light of the situation in Middle East.
