His Excellency Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rtd) Mohamed Fayaz
His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Fayaz was appointed as the new High Commissioner-designate of the Maldives to Malaysia by His Excellency President Yameen Abdul Gayoom in May 2014. He is the third High Commissioner to assume Office in Malaysia since the opening of the High Commission in Kuala Lumpur in 2006.
Prior to his appointment His Excellency Mr. Fayaz had an illustrious career in the Maldives Police Service. His Excellency Mr. Fayaz was instrumental in setting up the Maldives Police Service as a first-ever civilian entity in the Maldives in 2004 by developing internal procedures, regulations and laws and building infrastructure. His contribution to the development of the new Police Act and the Police Regulations was also widely approved. During his time at the Police Service he headed several departments including, Technology Department, Forensics Department, Human Resources Department, Intelligence Department, Strategic Development Department and Finance Department. He was the Assistant Commissioner of Police when he rose to the post of Deputy Commissioner in 2009. He is the proud recipient of several ribbons and medals received during his twenty years of service.
In February 2010, His Excellency Mr. Fayaz was appointed Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, a post he held for two years, heading the National center for Information Technology (NCIT). During his term at the Center, His Excellency Fayaz expanded the Government network to cover all remote atolls through fiber and microwave links and achieved the national objective of establishing a Government E-Letter Management System with a view to creating a completely paperless government. He was also responsible for the development and deployment of the Transport Online Service, the E-Citizen Portal, the Government E-Pay Services, the automation of National Social Protection Agency and the introduction of smart schools.
On 15th February 2012 His Excellency Fayaz was appointed as the Minister State for Home Affairs by the President of Maldives and was the political head of the Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation. He was also the Strategic Advisor to the Commissioner of Police and assisted the Minister of Home Affairs in steering the work of the Maldives Police Service to align with international standards and best practices and build its capacity as a professional Service.
His Excellency Fayaz holds a Masters Degree in Information Security and Computer Crime, from UK. His earlier trainings were also in the field of Computer Studies and Information
System. The High Commissioner is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy of Virginia, USA majoring in Strategy Development, also completing his military training at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii, the United States.
His Excellency Fayaz is married to Ms. Aishath Juman and they have two daughters and a son.
