    • Before leaving the Maldives, Mr Nasheed signed an undertaking to return to the Maldives after completing his medical treatment.

  • Government of the Maldives notes President Nasheed himself requested travel to UK, government agreed to accommodate request.

The Government of the Republic of Maldives has granted permission to Former President Mohamed Nasheed to travel to the United Kingdom to undertake a surgery at his request. Mr. Nasheed is currently serving a 13-year jail sentence for abducting a sitting judge.
